flowsfordays Presents: Our 50 Favorite Chicago Loosies Of 2016

A Stardust Memory (feat. Orlando Coolridge + prod. by Emperor Bohe) – Säge, The 64th Wonder

Sage has always been different, but has a multitude of loyal fans. He doesn’t stop working as he’s put out a few EP’s this year. Loose tracks have hit SoundCloud, but it’s A Stardust Memory that had me feigning for his upcoming EP. Featured artist Orlando Coolridge definitely has skills, but it’s Sage who stands in spotlight as he channels his MF Doom. Our recent post of dude also includes his music video.

Purp – Yung Ja$per

This song introduced me to Yung Ja$per and there was no turning back. An interview, a few more loosies, and a new EP later I’m back reflecting on one of my favorite cuts of the year. He made it pretty obvious in our conversation that he doesn’t give a fuck what people think of his music. He also told us Purp was actually a freestyle. Insane.

Homegrown (prod. by Jack Red + D. Phelps) – Jack Red

This song is a classic Chicago anthem. Jack Red created it for a reason which he described:

The concept of embracing your history, has inspired my philosophy of living life from the inside out. Homegrown celebrates my story and is a motivational ode to people’s individual roots. If you feel lost in the whirlwind of today, listen to this record and get back home.

It’s no surprise a host of people were involved in the creation of Homegrown, even violinists. He listed them all out in the song description which is another ode to positivity and a celebration of people. You can also check for more info here. It’s the first single off his upcoming EP Homegrown which I’m hoping drops sooner rather than later.

3ft No Pressure (feat. Femdot) – Ikon

Short story: I linked up with Ikon back in 2013 for an interview for my previous blog DGM. He was such a personable guy, and I kind of made it my duty to keep up with his output from then on as he showed me so much love. It’s been pretty easy as he’s made crazy moves since then and it doesn’t seem to stop. He’s an excellent producer which was apparent from the moment I heard his music 3 years ago.

He linked up with femdot. on this one which resulted in a Marshall Mather’s like beat and some enticing subject matter from fem. Hit that download button…it’s free.

Feel (prod. by Nubia) – Jayaire Woods

Yes, Jay’s FREETHEFALL mixtape made noise in the early summer. But shit, Free is the most fire track he’s ever made. It’s on that 70’s soulful tip with help from Nubia. It’s almost like he can’t stop himself from pushing out his thoughts. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was some sort of a freestyle or was written down all in one sitting.

Dear Life – BackWood Jones (formerly YP)

I haven’t found a proper stream of Dear Life, but I think we can all just be appreciative the song exists. Outlets all around the web gushed about the song; Fakeshoredrive even said it was the most honest record they have ever posted. EVER.

I’ll have to agree, Dear Life is sometimes gut wrenchingly honest, but all serves for a good purpose. So many people have related to the song, and hopefully it gets up on some streaming sites so we can give more support.

For Love (feat. GLC + Sarah Young, prod. by Ikon) – Saint Millie

For Love sounds like it could easily come from that heavenly 2000-2005 r&b era. Millie brings out his inner Fabolous from the get go while Sarah accompanies as his Lil’ Mo. If you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about please click here…it’ll be worth it.

Of course GLC lays down some epic verses, and Ikon’s instrumental is a sunny welcome to the song that was released in the cold winter months at the top of the year.

(A) Lonely (feat. Logan Cage + prod. by Timmy V & EB) – Malcolm London

Before OPIA made it’s mark, Malcolm London dropped this gem. He’s contributed so much to this city as an activist and educator. His artistry is just as important, and with Lonely it’s no wonder he’s so respected. Logan delivers a great performance as well.

Blame It On My X – Nylo

I love this song. Simply put, it’s stunning. It’s Nylo’s best song, and fittingly, has hit the highest amount of plays on SoundCloud. I recommend actually hitting the page that hosts the song as Nylo provided us with all of the lyrics. They may blow by you at first due to her light voice, but follow along as this is some poetic and truthful stuff.
