Vonte – 1 Time 4 Da West$ide (New Project)
Westside Chicago artist Vonte isn’t afraid to be honest about his past, present and future. His newest project, 1 Time 4 Da West$ide, is all about the challenges he has faced in showing his true self. Each song has a purpose on the 12 track tape, and has been in development since the tail end…

Destiny Roberts – Moon Melanin Mami (New Project + Review)
Destiny Roberts is Minnesota’s new Lauryn Hill. We have posted her music countless times, even sitting down for an insightful interview with her last year. This girl can do it all – from neo soul record to vicious rhyming. She’s soulful, and most importantly a positive force in music. There is spirituality to her persona…

I’m just gonna say this right now. This is one of my favorite projects out of Chicago EVER. It is the perfect album for a number of reasons; the first being the quality all of the elements involved. WiLL iS CHiLLiN’ knows how to craft a full song. There is structure to every one of the…

Josh K – Black Balloon (New Project)
After dropping off a few loosies with Chicago staples such as King Louie, Chicago crooner Josh K has released his full length LP Black Balloon. It was definitely worth the wait. I’ve written about how stale r&b has become and how hard it is (personally) to stick with a track, let alone a full album.…

femdot. – to(u). (New EP + Extensive Review)
femdot.’s debut project femdelacreme was my introduction to the young emcee. I lost touch with his music as he dropped the king dilla EP, but jumped right back in with fo(u)r. I wasn’t expecting three more releases…and that they would all be connected. 2016 has been his year as thr(we). hit us in the summer. We’ve just gotten another EP…

branDun DeShay -goldUn Child 2 (New Project)
I recently read an excellent interview (from years ago) with branDun DeShay right before he dropped the first installment of his GoldUn Child mixtape. I hit Apple Music right away and gave it a listen and it was great. It’s hard to find Asian inspired hip hop, but I always enjoy the music that comes out of it.…
