Portland artist Stevo The Weirdo has had an incredible year. Take A Walk In ANXT’s Shoes On Gut Wrenching New Single ‘preSSure’
It’s been a minute since I’ve heard from FFD favorite ANXT. The Chicago emcee/producer has deleted all of his music on SoundCloud (except the one above) and has switched over to Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. On his SoundCloud profile he has no link to his Twitter page, and perhaps this is a deliberate move.…

Young Maxwell & UNCLE SLUMP Create Historic Moment With ‘ HEART CHAKRA TREASURE’
Who is Young Maxwell? One of the best rappers out of the city of Chicago with unlimited potential. He is about to drop his Ugly Egos EP, and has successfully built a buzz through his single HEART CHAKRA TREASURE. My first experience with this track is similar to when I first heard A$AP Rocky in 2011. This guy…

Eso.Xo.Supreme & DJ Capryy Drop Reggae Inspired Gem ‘Bad Ting’
Eso.Xo.Supreme has been doing numbers across the board in the Portland music scene and streaming sites worldwide. He is as versitalie as an artist can get, able to stretch his voice into slow jam croons, eccentric distortions, and now reggae inspired musings. He pays homage to the roots of the genre without being corny or…

Imperial, K.I.N.E.T.I.K., Oddisee, & Micall Parknsun Come Together On “Travel The Map (Remix)” (Review)
Imperial & K.I.N.E.T.I.K. just dropped a remix of “Travel The Map,” and few songs that have come up in my submissions inbox have caught my attention from the very first listen as much as this gem did. The remixed instrumental, produced by Micalla Parknsun, is laid-back and jazzy, which is shown in the eerie piano…

Kai Akili Slows Things Down On “Hunnid Acre Wood” (Review)
Black Tide Entertainment MC Kai Akili is back with a new single entitled “Hunnid Acre Wood,” and it’s a hazy, lo-fi kind of a jam. The instrumental on this joint, which is produced by Parker Jazz, is stripped back and jazzy. It has a nocturnal feel, sounding perfect for a late night cruise through one…

DeadstockV1 And NEV Start Off The Summer Right With “Liv.9000”
Energy, energy energy. That is the thought constantly running through my mind every time I listen to DeadstockV1 and NEV’s new single, “Liv.9000.” The beat, produced by Origami, is one of the more lively instrumentals I’ve heard all year. The bass thumps along at a constant, hard-hitting pace, and it adds a distinctive rhythmic pulse…

Maushéa and Kai Akili Team up for a Jazzy Affair on “Only (Remix)” (Extensive Review)
From Common back in the ’90s to present day artists such as Saba and Noname, Chicago has a long-standing history of jazz-rap. Recently adding to this tradition are Black Tide Entertainment MC’s Maushéa and Kai Akili with their single, “Only (Remix).” This recently released cut is a reimagining of the track “Only,” which appeared on…
