It’s been almost 9 months since Wil Akogu’s last release and I’ve been heavily craving something new from the Chicago MC. Luckily he’s back in full force with a new mission and a new sound. Wil has been working his ass off, performing around the city and suburbs, doing photo shoots for prominent clothing brands, speaking on radio, and developing his sound. His newest, New Riches/The One is fucking insane. There’s no way I can do justice to the song with a write-up – it needs to be fully experienced. He’s straight up flexing on this one, allowing himself to be consumed by popularity which serves as his greatest demon. It’s a proper two-parter with an energetic feature from 8BALLSUE. You can hear the monumental confidence Wil has developed, rapping with full force over the cinematic mikewavvs & jkhaga beat. New Riches/The One is an impressive introduction to what we can expect from Wil this year, and I for one can’t be more excited.
