UK artist K.I.N.E.T.I.K. continues to create timeless music that captivates and intrigues me. I’ve covered him a number of times, and am always excited when new music hits my inbox. Therefore, I had high hopes for his latest EP Spin Cycle, executively produced by Micall Parknsun (who has had his hands in many of K.I.N.E.T.I.K.’s output).
Once again, K.I.N.E.T.I.K. blew me away. Every track on Spin Cycle circles around a theme that is far from boring or repetitive. The intro is KINETIK’s ode to his love for hip hop, and his duty to represent it to the fullest degree. As the cycle continues, he speaks on how hard it has been to get exposure for his music from fights with venue owners to frustration over standing out in a crowd of emcee’s that only increase by the day. Next is Wishful Thinking, a sentimental cut describing the world K.I.N.E.T.I.K. wants to live in. Storytelling, masterful DJ cuts, and his last proclamation that he is here to stay complete this wonderfully sequenced EP.
Micall is the guy who holds Spin Cycle together, diversifying each instrumental to match the topic at hand. This would be an entirely different EP without Micall’s midus touch. Spin Cycle is more than just music. It is a free-flowing, yet compelling piece that needs to be listened to in full to understand its greatness.
