Thanks to my man IKON, I’ve discovered mondae, a dynamic new Chicago duo. They unconventionally debuted with a full EP, appropriately self-titled. mondae has a twitter, but little else. None of this mattered to me as they put together a timeless project with R&B and ambient undertones, often cluttered and difficult to take in. This is no weakness, as the project will deepen your understanding of music. Bleak R&B is a popular sub-genre these days, and while not everyone sounds the same, mondae is on another planet. Intro Pull Up is an eccentric two-step with electronic undertones and profound songwriting. Some records (such as Mercedes) are more accessible. Each track is different from the next, a proper introduction to mondae’s music.
