Search ANXT on the site and you’ll know I am in love with his music. After dropping one of my favorite EP’s of the year, I scheduled an interview right away. Writing about his music was incredibly easy; the words seemed to flow right out of me.
It’s been 3 months since the aforementioned project, and we’ve finally gotten something new from the criminally underrated Chicago MC. Coming To America is his most ambitious record yet; a 2 minute song about how he feels being in America in 2017. Choice bars are: “complexion as dark as the dirt/they want to take my identity,” but there are so many more that you’ll have to play back to fully understand.
I hate to make comparisons, but after a full stream I immediately thought of Kanye West’s and Jay-Z’s joint project Watch The Throne (in part) because of the drum heavy beat from orijanus. ANXT blew me away with his approach to Coming To America, with stops and starts on an onslaught of topics that are honest and self reflective. ANXT tags the song as Fusion, New Wave, and African; a perfect description of what you’ll find after one listen.
