There are a plethora of female MC’s in Chicago that have yet to be discovered, or aren’t embraced the way they should be. Sorry guys, a ton of these ladies have more talent than you. It was upsetting to see Analicia Lasett’s My Name Isn’t (Intro) have 5 thumbs up and 3 thumbs down on YouTube. The The Ryan Schultz directed visual is 2 and a half minutes of poetic rhyming that dips and dives in flow, flavor, and engaging content.
Perhaps the hate comes from the content. Analicia spits strong words to the men that hit on her, disrespect her, and harass her without even asking for her name. She isn’t out for vengeance, but utilizes her confidence and fearlessness to share her direct experiences. There is no doubt other women have experienced all that pours out of her heart. She is the epitome of female empowerment.
Her debut EP is in the works, and will be dropping soon. Stay tuned.
