Sareem Poems & Ess Be are one of the most talented artists from ILLECT Recordings. I’ve become familiar with the label which has been around since 2003 – hosting independent talents that are correctly promoted.
In preparation for their next Illect album release, the duo has dropped a collaborative effort with Sean C. Johnson titled Way Up There. Three artists can often feel crowded, but the effortless back and forth between the duo allows the futuristic boom bap record to work. Sean C. executes the chorus with heavenly vocals breaking up the roaring drums from Ess Be himself.
Sareem shares –
“Way Up There is a song about not allowing anything to steal your joy. There are so many things that can bring you down. Focusing on the positive or the brighter side of things can be very difficult to do sometimes.“‘I’ve purposefully put myself in this head-space. It’s the best habit I’ve ever had.”
As tradition with any Illect Recording drop, you can stream the instrumental and acapella version – a standard on hip hop vinyl singles back in the day.
