I’ve been craving a beat tape for months now and I’ve finally gotten my fix. Instrumental projects come a dime a dozen, and so many sound the same. Chicago’s x-ray is far from a typical producer, best shown in his new project r e c o l l e c t i o n. The 7 track tape is a collection of beats made from the past 8 months which tell the story of his coming of age in instrumental form. Vocal samples are taken from old school music and snippets of TED talks in a soulful manner, all related to his own life.
He grabbed Chicago mainstays (and his best friends) Banksthegenius, Noah Sims, and Sebastian Kamae to contribute to the EP through features, mixing, and mastering. x-ray broke boundaries and trends with r e c o l l e c t i on for one sole purpose:
