If you are involved in the Chicago hip hop scene you probably know Djay. He’s incredibly young, and has been putting in work since his teens to create a strong presence in the city. He had a site called Mindset Music which he’s distanced himself from to work on perfecting his directing skills. He has done that, and more, in a very short period of time.
A perfect example of his progress is in Grizzie!’s newest visual to INTROvertigo. I was grateful to learn about the unique Chicago MC and producer. Just a month ago he dropped an exploratory hip hop EP titled INVERTIGO. It’s just 5 cuts, but it had a effect on me similar to a mind altering substance. With no hyperbole the album cover art may be my favorite in all of music. It’s gorgeous – and full of the right color schemes to draw you in.
It was only right he put together a visual for at least one of the tracks, and grabbing Djay to film, and Vthr3 to add his intriguing animations was smart. Grizzie! is an honest to God skilled rapper, he just chooses to deliver it in an unconventional way. The actual song is the intro to the tape, and we get snippets of his current situation. He talks about recently going ghost, but never loosing hope in his career. He’s working and linking with the right people, and it has, and will continue to pay off for him. I cannot wait to get a full length from him one day. You can peep the EP below and stream the visual above.
