Sunny Ture – damn. This hip hop producer, engineer, and rapper has gotten me in the mood this Tuesday morning with his newest record dizzy (a blessing.) All the elements of a hip hop classic are contained in just 3 minutes time. There’s the jazzy feel good production from Wun Two, the mellow bridge from featured artist ki, and the star of the show, Sunny. He couldn’t sound more at ease on dizzy, evoking his inner DOOM, Madlib and Lauryn Hill, whom just happen to be his biggest influences.
MF comes through in his abstract wordplay, Lauryn in his melodic grooves, and Madlib in his ability to glide over piano and boom bap laced instrumentals. Sunny stays introspective, but not transparent. He spins stories about the stress life brings, and how love heals in time. It’s a challenging track; meant to be uncovered at the listener’s discretion.
“just a nigga on his way tryna make it through the day
sometimes so much pressure i feel dizzy
stand still? nah a nigga stayin busy
till i’m rollin up the strong in my zone”
