The new record from TOPE has an unfortunate backstory. At a show last month, the Portland native’s laptop was stolen, which contained his entire new album. The only surviving single was The Man. His past 3 releases were jazzy and smooth, but The Man is a departure from that sound. It’s a soulful anthem, with a pop mentality. It’s a perfect record for summer cruising, and is nice to hear in the doldrums of March.
Tope recently relocated to the Bay Area, to make more connections and further his music career. Looks like things are working out, as he linked with three people on this record…Stewart Villain (production), DJ Flip Flop (cuts) and Cash Campaign (feature.)
